I ntroducing the parents of our dogs:

Knowing the background of my foundational dogs is a high priority for understanding what my dogs bring to the table, and for the assessment of future breeding strategies.

'Rio'
Wilson's Rio de Janero

'Sage'
Green Mountain's Sage of the Valley

Jazz's parents:

Beautiful tricolored Rio weighed 57-60 lbs, 23" at shoulder, PennHip: .26 /.20 (better than 95% of the breed). MDR1 n/n. He was a rodent / bird hunter, a natural herder & quite biddable. He was very protective of his property but OK with newcomers once introduced. Unfortunately, he was killed in an accident at the age of 3. Rio was bred, raised and owned by Green Mountain English Shepherds (now Star Crossed ES).

Shaded sable coloured Sage weighed 48 lbs, 22" at shoulder at 3 years of age. PennHip: .61/.51 (no DJD) MDR1 n/n, DM clear, CEA carrier.

She has one of the sweetest dispositions- even voluntarily nursing other female's puppies if they are unwilling to. Very loyal, good with people, understanding and smart. Sage is owned by Star Crossed English Shepherds

'Drifter'
Eastwood's Hi Plains Drifter GM

'Missy'
Mistletoe Noelle

Misty's parents:

Drifter is a 1/2 sibling of Jazz, sharing Rio as sire. He's a 2 yr old tricolor, ~55 lbs. ~21" at shoulder. He's a gentle dog, but is watchful of strangers. He comes from a long line of excellent hips, and his hips were x-rayed as 'good' by a vet, but were not OFA'd. MDR1 m/n, DM affected, CEA carrier, PRA/PRCD clear. Drifter has a strong herding drive and is the main cattle drover on their ranch.

Missy is a 4 yr old black & white girl, ~ 50 lbs, ~22" at shoulder. She has a strong herding drive. She worked cattle until she started being used for breeding purposes. Mistletoe is the resident rodent killer at her home. Rabbits and squirrels don't stand a chance. She is very gentle and loving, except when a stranger comes to the door. Her breeder says, "I don't have a door bell, I have 4 ES's. Mistletoe takes a tour around the house every night making her nightly rounds, checking on the grounds."

No hip testing, MDR1 n/n, DM clear, PRA/PRCD clear, CEA clear.

Both Drifter & Missy are owned by Hi Plains English Shepherds in Kansas.

He has a very humble and personable disposition, very smart and outgoing, natural drive, watchful of his property, and nurturing towards his puppies. An excellent example of the wonderful all round disposition that these dogs should portray. Prince is owned by Star Crossed English Shepherds.

Tricolored, split faced Roxie is 3 yrs old, weighing 55 lbs, 23" at shoulder; OFA prelim Excellent, MDR1 n/n, CEA clear, DM clear. She is a 1/2  niece to Rio (Jazz's sire). She's well-mannered, smart, lovable but not obsessive, loyal, prey driven, loves to fetch. She's a well-rounded alpha girl. While having a very sweet demeanor, she's very protective of her people and territory. She's a very calm dispositioned indoor/outdoor dog. Roxie was owned by Green Mountain English Shepherds.

'Cash'
Husted's Trib
to Johnny Cash

'Dually'
Van Loon's Dually

Monty's parents:

Cash was a beautiful, 65 lb tricolored  old gentleman, born February 8, 2003. He was a friendly, steady, adaptable dog who in his prime was very athletic, an enthusiastic and talented herding dog, showing boldness & power. Even at the age of 12 he was still agile enough to jump in & out of the truck with ease -- and enthusiasm! He loved to go and do. He earned his JHD and started Ranch Dog on sheep in the AHBA. Cash worked cattle, ducks, sheep, and goats. Cash took his job as protector and vermin eradicator on his farm seriously. He chased off coyotes that were a threat to his sheep, rabbits, and chickens. Cash had the legendary off switch and could safely be left out with grazing stock. Cash was very biddable with 'his' people and was easily trained as a mature male in 2008. Cash also respected property boundaries and didn't leave even if someone left the gate open. Cash was an excellent farm dog and his pups have proven their abilities on farms, in herding trials, and as family companions. He had a sweet disposition, and was an asset to the breed. Tested OFA good, DM clear, CEA clear, PRA/PRCD clear,  MDR1 n/n Hereditary Cataracts clear.  Pedigree in photo gallery below. Cash was owned by Sarah Budde.

Tricolored Dually was born March 11, 2011. She is 50lbs and stands 22" tall. Her coat is medium in length. We like to say her name is fitting because she has both brains and beauty. She is an extremely affectionate "velcro" dog that is quite biddable and shows great potential when working stock. She mainly works dairy cattle and occasionally poultry. Dually is also very proficient at keeping crop-damaging geese off of our property. Being a moderately active dog, she loves to survey her property and she assesses new situations with a quiet demeanor. She is very gentle with young stock, pets, and children. Hip screen: OFA Good,  MDR1 n/n by parentage, DM clear by testing. - She is owned by Van Loon English Shepherds. I used to have access to a working evaluation for her. Unfortunately, the link no longer works.
