Packaged, Fresh or Frozen Meat

All our livestock is raised as naturally as possible, without animal byproducts or growth hormones.

Our meat is butchered, cut & wrapped at a certified, licensed, provincially inspected abattoir in Dawson Creek, BC. Processing charges are extra and price is available on request.

Pre-orders for raw meat are required, to ensure freshness. It is strongly recommended that you pre-order for frozen, as well, since meat availability is first come, first served.

Pre-ordering also gives you control over the type of cuts you get (as offered through the butchering facility) as well as age and size of animal butchered, as available.

A 50% deposit is required when ordering. A deposit is money you put down to secure your order. It gets your pig or goat a date with the butcher. If you don't want a whole pig or goat, see if you can find another person or two with whom to split it. Deposits are non-refundable unless we are unable to supply your order. If you are not going to be able to use what you reserved, see if you can find someone else to buy it to protect your investment in the deposit.

  1. Chevon / Cabrito

Goat meat has a richer, meatier flavour and texture than lamb without the tallow taste; it's lower in cholesterol and fat than beef, pork or lamb – and high in protein and iron. Except for ribs, loins, and tenderloin, which are suitable for quick cooking, the majority requires low-heat, slow cooking (braising) to preserve tenderness and moisture. Some great recipes can be found here.

Sales for market goats take place in the late fall/ mid winter at seven to nine months of age. Goats generally produce a hanging weight (HW) of 45-52% of their live weight. Highest market demand is typically for a 60-80 lb kid.

Kid meat (Cabrito) is priced higher than adult goat meat (Chevon) due to its superior tenderness and price of slaughter to carcass weight ratio. (The fee for slaughter is the same amount for a kid as for a full grown adult; since kids weigh less, there is more cost incurred per pound to process). Purchasing meat from a whole carcass is more economical than by the piece.

Our 2018 prices are as follows:
Chevon - whole carcass cut & wrapped $9/lb, by the piece $10.50 / lb and up.
Cabrito - whole carcass cut & wrapped $12/lb, by the piece $13.50 / lb and up.

(We have flash sales on occasion, see FOR SALE page)

  2. Pork -  Sales for pork take place as available.

A 560 lb pastured & grained Landrace cross sow was processed Dec 2021 at our local, licensed, government inspected facility.

2022 Pricing $6.50 - $8 / lb depending on cuts, and whether or not cured.

Pigs generally produce a hanging weight (HW) of 70-72% of their live weight. For example, a 250 lb pig yields about 180 lbs HW. That is after slaughter and cleaning, head, skin, feet and tail on. This is how animals are sold – by the hot hanging weight after slaughter. Cutting to standard commercial cuts yields about 67% of hanging weight or about 125 lbs (using the above example) of actual cuts like you would see in the store.
