Misty x Laddie pups Week 1

The Misty x Laddie pups are 1 week old today! The majority of their time is spent nursing & sleeping.

Here is Misty's alert look when I'm holding one of her pups. She's a good mama. 💕 >>

On Day 3, we got the whelping straw mess cleaned up & the puppy nest made. The straw is such a good medium for the actual process, but it's so nice to not have straw stuck to every limb and sock foot, traipsed throughout the house, lol.

You may notice our nest is a bit different... More info on our reasons here.

Day 4 So I knew when I built the nest that we'd have some escapees from it. But I just didn't have the man power around until the next afternoon to take down an 8' tall multiple ex-pen outdoor run so that I could use part of it around the nest as I typically do. This is why I placed a heating pad on the floor, so no pups would chill. It was well used overnight & the next morning, with about 10 pup retrievals, but thanks to the heating pad, everyone was fine. :)

However, I'm very happy we now have the containment fence around the nest... Just a quick update video for Day 5. Trimmed nails on their front feet as well. This helps to protect the dam's teats from damage, while still allowing them to push with their hind feet for traction.

Misty is SUCH a patient mama...

Day 6 Misty and pups just hanging out, eating and growing...

Day 7 Feb 12, 2020 Weighed, changed ribbon collars on pups that had outgrown them. Pups were placed in yet another clean set of bedding today. Misty has been going outside in this heavy snow fall, accumulating snowballs all over, then clambering under the house in the dirt while on her breaks. We're currently trying to close off the various access points, but in the meantime, it has meant for some muddy bedding (when some other people in the household let her out / in... sigh... but hey, it means I can sleep in in the morning! :D ), along with teat and paw baths... This is the typical home for pups (in basket on heating pad) while I change their bedding.

Misty nursing the smallest group first, while biggest siblings wait. She prefers to have all pups nearby, as seen in this picture - not so relaxed when some are missing.

However, she knows the command 'Lie back', and, thankfully, usually listens :)

Individual puppy pics (Day 7) All pups that are not obviously sable appear to be some version of b/w or seal (more info here & here). Some of the pups currently appear dark grey, some with dark reddish brown hue, but it's very difficult to capture the color on camera. Green is the only one that is appearing pure black / white at this time. (All 3 of these pups are 28oz, btw, the perspective is skewed due to the position of the pups in relation to the camera.)

So, looking quite different atm, but, we'll just have to wait and see how their colors develop as they mature.

Blue (m) This boy may be seal; he looks quite b/w here, but has a bit of reddish hue to his coat.

Gold (m) Sable with some gold on his cheeks.

Green (m)

Black & white boy.

Red (m)

Peach (m)
